Sugarloaf, Maine
Trip Report
March 14-18 2003
The BIG STORY this year was that Evan learned to ski! OK. So I'm a little biased. Evan had a blast. He can't wait for the next season to start.
Some other people went skiing, too. Duska, our Au Pair from Croatia got on skis for the first time. She still needs to work on the lift dynamics...lifts take you up the mountain, not down. But she was brave and made it all the way down from the top.
Quite a few people took advantage of the free lessons. I think I saw nearly everyone taking a lesson at some point. Now if we can just remember a few things I learned for next season...
The pizza party was a great time, but who ordered all those extra pizzas?
It was a little bit of a haul to get the luggage in, but the rooms were great. Lots of space in all of the ones I checked.
Oh, yes... the mountain. It was quite large. I think I still missed a few runs here and there. The weather was a bit warm, but no one was complaining. The sun was shining and everyone was having a good time.
Except Duska. She hadn't quite grasped the concept that the chair lifts only take you up the mountain, not down. And thus, our newby ended up on top of the mountain. She struggled a bit at the top, but as she made her way down, she got more and more confident. About two-thirds of the way down, we looked back and she could see how much mountain she had skied. Duska made it down and we were all impressed on her accomplishments as a new skier!
Of course, she'll never listen to me again.
