Blue Knob, Pennsylvania
January 11-12 2003
Great trip! 36 people, which included 12 kids and their parents, all managed to get on the bus by 6am Saturday and off the bus at 8pm Sunday evening! (One person missed the trip, mistakenly thinking it was the following weekend....sound asleep when I called him at 6am!)
Trip highlights: Locals said we had the best conditions/snow they had seen in several years, which meant very little ice which was great....we had been warned that Blue Knob can be a little on the chilly side - I would have to say that 9 degrees both mornings qualifies as "CHILLY", and the 10 to 15 mile/hr winds made it even "CHILLIER"! (Many people learned about the little magic bags that, when exposed to air, warm up!...praise the lord for hand and boot warmers....amen!).....the jimmy buffet dinner we had in our own little banquet room worked out well...pretty decent food (turkey and roast beast), and plenty of it.....our assistant trip leader, Shawn (age 8), and the assistant to the assistant trip leader, Samie (age 11), and the assistant to the assistant to the assistant trip leader, Ryan (age 9), all did a great job, and have asked to lead trips next year for the Ski Club!...but the highlight for me that will make this trip most memorable - watching the Pittsburgh Steelers on the Best Western bar T.V. lose their playoff game to Tennesse! I know I did a great job of containing my enthusiasm out of respect for their dejected fans standing amongst us - ok, for fear of getting beatin' up. But, I couldn't resist taunting every one of them on the chair lifts the next day! "So, did you watch the game yesterday?....Yeah, that was a real shame how you guys lost - it just wasn't fair!...what, are those violins I hear playing?"
Anyway, great trip!
